The two-week programme, designed for aspiring 16–18 year old writers, encourages participants to push the limits of their current writing abilities, work with expert university tutors, and learn to improve their own work by critically analysing great literature.

Participants in this summer creative writing programme will explore a wide range of creative writing techniques, receive constructive feedback from their peers, and even complete their own novella by the end of the course.

Participants will conclude the creative writing summer school programme having gained more creative independence and confidence in their own writing, as well as a deep appreciation for the skills required to begin writing compelling articles, novels, and academic prose.

You’ll start by reviewing the fundamentals of creative writing (showing instead of telling, avoiding cliché, effective plot, etc.) before moving on to more advanced techniques and concepts.

The Cambridge Writers’ Workshop Summer in Paris Writing Retreat will take place from July 17-22, 2019.

Situated in heart of Paris’ Montparnasse neighborhood, amongst the fresh and popular open air markets and charming boutiques, the hotel stay is full of Parisian charm and our classes will take place in a beautiful Moroccan themed room that opens to a courtyard that can also be used by our writers.Ekphrasis: Writing Confronts Visual Art (with Diana Norma Szokolyai) The word “ekphrasis” comes from the Greek, referring to a literary response to a visual scene, or more commonly, a work of art. Mary’s College of California, and Naropa University.By engaging in the imaginative act of reflecting on the action of a work of visual art, the writer expands the meaning of the art. He is currently a professor of Literature and Writing at the University of California, San Diego.Everything from the basics of character development to the subtle nuances of plot development will be covered.During your tuition, you’ll learn to make purposeful choices about point of view, dialogue style, and the place/setting in which your stories take place.Throughout their stay, students will learn what makes great writing, following a dynamic curriculum built to help them identify their unique strengths and weaknesses.Students will also be introduced to the concept of the “writing workshop”, a popular way for professional writers to improve their own work.before moving on to more advanced techniques and concepts.Tutors will work alongside participants to individualise academic session, adjusting tutorials based on participants’ different abilities and interests.This two-week programme, designed for talented 16–18 year old writers, offers an inspiring opportunity for students to push the limits of their current writing abilities, work with expert tutors, and learn to improve their own work by critically analysing great literature.Supported by their tutors, students in this programme will explore a wide range of creative writing techniques, get constructive feedback from their peers, and even complete their own novella by the end of the course.
